Terms and conditions for ICE member journal subscriptions

1. Personal use:

ICE member journal subscriptions are for personal use only and are not available to organisations. Details for organizational subscriptions are available here.

2. Online articles

2.1 Online access

All ICE member journal subscriptions entitle the subscriber to one year's online access to all Subscribed Materials published within the subscription year, and free access to back issues of the Subscribed Materials for each of the three years preceding the subscription year. 

Purchasers of the Civil Engineering Special Issue Archive (1992-2012) are entitled to perpetual access to the relevant content.

Subscribers to the Virtual Journal receive 15 access tokens which must be used during the subscription period. Access tokens are redeemable against any journal article from across the ICE specialist engineering journals portfolio. The selected articles must be downloaded within 24 hours of the token being redeemed for access.

2.2 Usage Rights

Member subscribers may view, download, and/or print the Subscribed Materials for the purposes of research and private study.

Member subscribers may not:

• distribute a copy of the Subscribed Materials by any means or in any format, (electronic or otherwise), without the prior written permission of Emerald Publishing
• make the Subscribed Materials accessible to others on the internet, an intranet, server or any other means of sharing an electronic document
• charge for a copy of the Subscribed Materials
• use the Subscribed Materials for commercial use
• prepare derivative works or incorporate the Subscribed Materials into any other work or system.

3. Printed issues

'Print and Online' member subscribers are entitled to receive all print issues for the volume year of the Subscribed Materials. Printed issues will be shipped to the address provided within your subscription as soon as they are available.

4. Intellectual property rights

The Subscribed Materials are copyright of Emerald Publishing. The patent rights, trademarks, service marks, trade names, copyright, design rights, database rights and other intellectual property rights in and to the Subscribed Materials, whether registered or unregistered, are the sole and exclusive property of the Publisher or exclusively licensed to and controlled by the Publisher and nothing in this Licence shall be deemed to assign or transfer to the Purchaser any such right, title or interest except for the right to use the Subscribed Materials in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Licence.

5. Availability

Emerald Publishing will use commercially reasonable efforts to make the Subscribed Materials available to the Purchaser. Emerald Publishing will not be liable for any delay, downtime, access time error, transmission error, software or equipment incompatibilities, force majeure or other failure of performance.   In the event of any failure to deliver the Subscribed Materials ordered, Emerald Publishing's sole liability shall be to deliver such Subscribed Materials at another time.

6. Term

This Licence shall come into effect on the date these terms are accepted by the Subscriber completing the online member subscription process and will remain in full force and effect without limitation in time.

7. Definitions:

Commercial Use
Use for the purposes of monetary reward by means of sale, loan, transfer, hire or other form of exploitation of the Subscribed Materials.

Subscribed Materials
The electronic material subscribed to by the subscriber. For purchasers of the Civil Engineering Special Issue Archive, the Subscribed Materials are the special issues published between 1992 and 2012 inclusive.
