COUNTER Reports from Emerald

Emerald COUNTER reports are R5.1 compliant. 

What reports are available?

COUNTER 5.0 and Historical Usage Data

• Library admins will be able to access R5 reports dating from the years 2023, 2024 and 2025 to in the librarian admin portal under the Archive Reports tab.

• These reports will be in the form of .zip files. Each will contain Emerald Insight and ICE (if applicable) usage data for that year. ICE reports will be separate to those from Emerald Insight. Please do also note that some Emerald Insight data for 2025 may appear on a separate report due to hierarchy changes made ahead of the platform migration. 

COUNTER 5.1

• Please use the COUNTER 5.1 report option for usage from July 2025 onwards.

Reports that comply with the 5.1 release differ from those of the previous iteration of COUNTER5, as follows:

• Chapters are the primary metric for book usage. Consequently, the Section Type attribute has been removed from reports as part of this enhancement.
  
• A new Global Item report is available that combines attributed usage from every institution with non-attributed usage linked to the world.
• A new Free to Read access type is available for materials that are temporarily accessible to everyone.
• The Usage Data section of the Account Management Portal will include a COUNTER5.1 section.
