Emerald COUNTER reports are R5 compliant. We will be COUNTER 5.1 compliant from 1st March 2025.
What reports are available?
COUNTER 5.0
- Please use the COUNTER 5.0 report option for usage prior to Jan 2025.
- Until March 1st, full-month COUNTER R5.0.3 data from January 2022 onwards (new R5 reports are added each month, retrospectively, so November data is available from the first week in December, and so on and so forth.)
- On March 1st, the 2022 data will be removed and we will retain a rolling wall of 12 months of legacy COUNTER reports that fall outside the prior 24 months i.e. for 2025, the R5.0 reports will go back to Jan 2023.

COUNTER 5.1
Since data collection began in February 2025, Our COUNTER5.1 reports will start providing data from March 2025 onwards. Reports that comply with the 5.1 release differ from those of the previous iteration of COUNTER5, as follows:
- Chapters are the primary metric for book usage. Consequently, the Section Type attribute has been removed from reports as part of this enhancement.
- A new Global Item report is available that combines attributed usage from every institution with non-attributed usage linked to the world.
- A new Free to Read access type is available for materials that are temporarily accessible to everyone.
- The Usage Data section of the Account Management Portal will include a COUNTER5.1 section.
